Authorities in Wahpeton took a man into custody Wednesday after he walked away from the Missouri River Correctional Center Monday evening.

David Joseph Gray left the minimum security facility in Bismarck between 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. Monday, according to a news release from the North Dakota Highway Patrol. Officials contacted Highway Patrol as soon as they realized he was gone.

Gray is serving a sentence for possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver and was scheduled for release in April 2021, authorities said.

A news release Wednesday morning indicated Gray was believed to be in the Wahpeton area and was considered dangerous. Late Wednesday, authorities said he was in custody but did not immediately release other details.
