Bismarck is celebrating Public Works Day with an event on Saturday. The first 250 children in attendance will receive a free hard hat and students in kindergarten through fifth-grade will have a chance to win a ride to school in a public works vehicle.

The event, hosted by the city’s public works department and the North Dakota American Public Works Association, is slated for 1 to 4 p.m. at the public works building located at 601 S. 26th St.

Snowplows and construction, forestry and solid waste equipment will be on display and demonstrations will be provided. There will be hands-on activities for children and attendees will have the opportunity to take a self-guided tour of the public works building.

The event, which will take place both in- and outdoors, is free and open to the public. Parking is available on the west side of the building.
