10 YEARS AGO (2010): Top-ranked Bismarck ground out a no-nonsense 50-45 boys basketball victory over No. 3 Century in a game dominated by gritty defense. Bruce Govig scored Century's first 12 points of the second half and finished with a team-high 18 counters. Jalen Finley also tallied 18 points to lead Bismarck.

20 YEARS AGO (2000):  Jamie Skadeland had 12 kills and picked Mandan apart with 42 assists as Williston claimed a 15-5, 15-9, 15-12 road volleyball victory. Sarah Leer led the Coyote attack with 16 kills. Kelli Henke and Amy Friesz tallied six kills apiece for Mandan. Williston stands 18-3 with the win. Mandan is 19-6.

50 YEARS AGO (1970): Steve Blehm, formerly of Bismarck, broke his own North Dakota School for the Deaf scoring record with a 52-point splurge against the Devils Lake B-squad. Blehm's burst led the Bulldogs, now 6-4 on the season, to an 80-74 victory.
