10 YEARS AGO (2009): The University of Mary softball team dropped a couple of one-run decisions in Orlando, Fla. Brenda Langston went the distance and took the loss in a 1-0 setback at the hands of Kutztown (Pa.) State. The Marauders out-hit Northwood (Mich.) 11-7 in the second game, but fell 7-6. Samantha Antolin singled twice and doubled for U-Mary against Northwood.

20 YEARS AGO (1999): Dustin Deichert's 3-pointer with five seconds to play in overtime made Mandan a winner in the first round of the West Region basketball tournament. Deichert's bomb capped off a 23-point scoring effort and sank Century 55-52 at the Civic Center.

50 YEARS AGO (1969): Gordy Wagner scored 28 points to lead South Heart into the District 30 basketball tournament finals at Dickinson. South Heart defeated Belfield 58-44, and Beach trimmed Gladstone 57-43 in the other semifinal. Jerry Morman tallied 20 points for Beach.

TRIVIA ANSWER

Mandan and Fargo Shanley are tied for the most North Dakota Class A girls basketball championships. Both schools have won nine state titles.
