10 YEARS AGO (2009): Beach scored 29 points in the second half to defeat Hettinger 51-36 for the championship in the District 13 boys basketball tournament in Dickinson. Beach's Justin Maus led all scorers with 17 points. Drew Nash popped in 10 points to pace Hettinger.

20 YEARS AGO (1999): Bismarck State College thwarted a budding rally by MSU-Bottineau to capture the Region 13 junior college basketball championship at the Burleigh County Armory. BSC advances to a district playoff with a national tournament berth on the line. Lori Wintermute scored 26 points, 18 in the second half, for Bottineau. Emily Westrum and Stacie Rossland paced BSC with 19 and 81 points, respectively.

50 YEARS AGO (1969): The host Rhame Pirates whipped the Sentinel Butte Sentinels 75-64 in a Southwest Conference tilt. Pacing the Pirate charge were Ron Getz and Dale Spetman with 19 points apiece. For the visitors it was Willis Braun with 20 and Dennis Dietz with 17.

TRIVIA ANSWER

Minot has won the most North Dakota Class A boys basketball championships with 17.
