10 YEARS AGO (2009): Out of sync early, Bismarck adjusted and cruised to a 3-2 volleyball victory over Jamestown. With their 10th straight win, the Demons clinched the top seed for next week's West Region Tournament. Twila Moser and Anne Assel put down 11 kills each for BHS. Alex Hanson paced Jamestown with 10 kills.

20 YEARS AGO (1999):  Alvin Jefferson, a 6-foot-9, 230-pound forward out of Auburn, has signed a contract with the Dakota Wizards. Jefferson played basketball in Luxembourg and Australia the past two seasons. He will be with the team when camp opens later this month.

50 YEARS AGO (1969): The return of eight lettermen from last season's basketball squad bolsters Riverdale's basketball hopes for the coming season. Senior lettermen returning are Jim Martinson, Mark Koenig, Larry Walcher, Bruce Pederson, Steve Snyder and Jim Klinger. Juniors returning are Wayne DeTienne and Terry Trzpuc.

Henri Richard of the Montreal Canadiens played on an 11 Stanley Cup championship teams beginning in his rookie year of 1955-56. His final Stanley Cup season was 1973. Twice, Richard scored the winning goal in the championship game.
