Seventy North Dakota high school students have been chosen as Presidential Scholar candidates.
Morton County students Kathryn Slavick, a senior at Mandan High School, Morgan E. Krizan, from Hebron High School, and Dreyton C. Rud, from New Salem High School, are among them.
Selection factors include nomination by the state superintendent of public instruction, exceptional performance on the ACT or SAT college entrance exams, demonstrated promise in career and technical education, and academic and CTE potential. The U.S. Department of Education will name one male and one female student from each state as Presidential Scholars for 2018.
Presidential Scholars receive an expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C., in late June to meet with educators and government officials, and receive a medallion at a ceremony sponsored by the White House. There is no cash scholarship.
