There’s now a handy spot in Mandan for disposal of worn U.S. flags.
A flag retirement box has been placed at the main entrance of the Morton County Courthouse in Mandan. It’s a joint effort of Morton County, the National Association of Counties, the National Flag Foundation and the National Sheriffs Association.
Flags should be folded respectfully before being placed in the box.
“The centrally-placed drop-off location provides an added convenience to the citizens of Morton County while respecting our national symbol,” said Mitchell Erhardt, Morton County Veterans Service officer, who will be responsible for proper disposal of the flags.
The United States Flag Code states that “The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem of display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.”
