Youth host donkey basketball fundraiser

First Lutheran Youth in Mandan will hold a Dairyland Donkey Basketball tournament Saturday, Jan. 9.

The event will feature contestants riding on donkeys while playing basketball.

Tickets are $10 in advance and can be purchased from the youth going on a mission trip to Hollywood, or at First Lutheran Church in Mandan. Those interested can also call the church at 701-663-3594 for tickets.

Remaining tickets will be available at the door for $12. Kids 5 and under are free.

The event starts at 7 p.m. at Mandan Middle School, 2901 12th Ave. NW.

Church to hold 'Confronting Racism' event

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church will hold a livestream of "Confronting Racism: A Holy Yearning" on Thursday, Jan. 14 at 8 p.m.

The event focuses on the U.S. criminal justice system and the church's role in stopping racism.

UU announces schedule for January

The Bismarck-Mandan Unitarian Universalist Fellowship and Church has announced its January schedule. All services take place at 10:30 a.m.

Sunday's service features Janis Cheney and Jean King, who will lead a celebration in song and story titled "New Year Celebration; New Beginnings."

  • The Jan. 10 service features Don Morrison who will present on "Inspirational Atheism."
  • The Jan. 17 service features the Rev. Karen Van Fossan, who will address trauma and healing within cultures, "others" and ourselves.
  • The Jan. 24 service features Mylinda Ogundipe, who will talk about adverse childhood experiences.
  • The Jan. 31 service features Henry Riegler, who will discuss behavior based on belief.

The church is at 818 E. Divide Ave. in Bismarck.
