TURTLE LAKE — It is with great sadness that the family of Lonnie Kemmit, 71, Turtle Lake, announces his passing on Sept. 23, 2012, at a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Turtle Lake, with the Rev. Betty Stedman officiating. Burial will be in Turtle Lake Cemetery with military rites provided by the American Legion Post 133.
Visitation will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. today at Trinity Lutheran Church, Turtle Lake.
Lonnie was born Aug. 13, 1941, in rural McClusky. He was the only child born to Bert and Olga (Herr) Kemmit. Lonnie grew up in Lincoln Valley Township, Sheridan County, and graduated from McClusky High School in 1959.

Lonnie was inducted into the U.S. Army in November 1961 and was honorably discharged in November 1963. He married Mary Ann Arne in 1963 and they made their home in Turtle Lake. They owned and operated Lonnie’s Lounge in Turtle Lake for 15 years. Lonnie sponsored several local softball and bowling teams and was a major sports enthusiast. He was a big supporter of Turtle Lake athletics. Lonnie worked as an employee of the U.S. Postal Service for 36 years and retired as postmaster of the Columbus Post Office.
Lonnie is lovingly remembered by his wife of 49 years, Mary Ann, Turtle Lake; three children, his daughter, Tammi (Troy) Sundby, Fargo, his son, Tony (Laurie) Kemmit and his daughter, Jaime Kemmit, both of W. Des Moines, Iowa; and two grandchildren, Amanda and Ashley Sundby.
