Ida B. Schmidt, 90, Mandan, died Sept. 19, 2005, at the Mandan Medcenter One Care Center. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Patrick Schumacher officiating. Burial will be at Mandan Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, where a parish vigil will be held at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour before the services on Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
Ida Friesz was born Oct. 15, 1914, in Fallon. She was the daughter of Adam and Isabelle (Eckroth) Friesz. She attended rural school in Fallon. Ida married Peter A. Schmidt Nov. 10, 1936, in Fallon. The couple made their home in Fallon, where they farmed. In 1953, they moved to Mandan. Ida worked for JC Penney's in Mandan as a sales clerk for 31 years and retired in 1985. Peter died Dec. 13, 1966.
Ida enjoyed visiting, playing pinochle, dancing and spending time with family and friends. She belonged to the Mandan Ladies Moose Auxiliary.
In December of 1998, she became a resident of The Terrace in Bismarck, where she resided until June of 2005.
Ida is survived by one daughter, Janice Schwartz, Billings, Mont.; four sons, Ken (Sherry), Grand Junction, Colo., Paul (Doris), Aberdeen, S.D., Peter, Hot Springs, S.D., and Gary (Wanda) Mandan; one step-sister, Kathryn Ehli; 17 grandchildren, Cody and Nevada Schmidt, Darryl (Tami), Dale (Pam) and Tim Hatzenbuhler (Tony), Debra (Tony) Holso, Pamela (Mike) Pahl, Susan Kiewel, Christine (Mark) Horner, Kathy (Matt) Rodgers, Angel Condit, Dean, Dave (Liz), Bruce (Christy) Schwartz, Amy (Tom) Lechner, Jodi Sostrom and Dede Engel; 30 great-grandchildren, Heidi (Travis) Swift, Holly and Hondi Hatzenbuhler, Tessa, Tara and Justin Hatzenbuhler, Jeremy, Samantha and Jameson Holso, Tyler, Skye and Kayla Pahl, Ashley Kiewel, Brian, Isabella and Evan Long, Wyatt and Jacob Rodgers, Rachel Condit, Jordan, Nathan, Ashley, Chelsea and Wesley (Julia) Schwartz, Kyle and Megan Lechner, Erin and Jared Sostrom, and Travis and Tanner Engel; and one great-great-grandchild, Alyvia Schwartz.
Ida was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one daughter, Patricia Hatzenbuhler; three grandchildren, JeanAnn and Phillip Schwartz and Sheryl Schwartz; two brothers, Peter and Ralph Friesz; one sister, Minnie Kuhn; one stepbrother, John Ehli; and two stepsisters, Elizabeth and Mary Ehli.
