SELFRIDGE — Helen Mosset, 93, Selfridge, died Sept. 22, 2012, at Sanford Health Care Center, Mandan. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, at St. Philomena Catholic Church, Selfridge, with the Rev. Basil Atwell as celebrant. Burial will be at St. Philomena Cemetery, Selfridge.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, with a parish vigil at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
Helen was born Nov. 5, 1918, west of Selfridge to John R. and Gertrude (Grundhauser) Kronberger. She was the third eldest of 11 children: Tony, Frank, Helen, Lena, Kay, Eva, Matt, Ann, Nick, Gertrude and Joe. She was raised and educated in Selfridge and graduated from Selfridge High School. Helen married Stanley Mosset on Oct. 1, 1940, at St. Philomena Catholic Church in Selfridge.
After the death of her parents, Helen and Stanley took over care of her younger siblings and welcomed six children of their own. Helen was a founding member of the Christian Mothers Society of St. Philomena’s, which was established in 1943, along with being one of its first officers. She also belonged to the Prairie Rose Homemakers Club, until it disbanded in the late 1960s. She was active in the Selfridge Square Dance Organizations, cooked for the Senior Center and cleaned the ASCS offices.
Helen’s favorite pastimes were sewing and reading. She loved to watch the television show “Sewing with Nancy” and would never miss the KFYR 6 p.m. Nightly News. Helen was a wonderful cook and loved to cook and baked with others. At the age of 81, she went on a Caribbean cruise with her sister, Lena. She enjoyed being outside in her yard and raised beautiful Peonies and Irises, which were her favorite. She loved to tend her rhubarb plants and apple trees, which gave her a bounty of fruit each fall. When branding time came Helen would ride along in the pickup to watch her son, Willy, move his cows from one pasture to another.
Helen will be deeply missed by her sons, Willy (Lenora), Selfridge, Milt (Marie), Apple Valley, Calif., Darrell (Rhonda Morseth), Fargo, Myron (Cathy), Hot Springs, S.D., and Dean (Sherry Schurbon), Arvada, Colo.; eight grandchildren, Karen (Clay) Schaeffer, McLaughlin, S.D., Brian (Stacey) Mosset, Valley Ford, Wash., Rob Mosset, Mandan, Deb Mosset, Selfridge, Jason Mosset (serving in U.S. Army), Tiffany Mosset, Bismarck, Caitlyn Mosset, Hot Springs, S.D., and Lauren Mosset, Virginia; 12 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Kay Carter, Hawaii, Eva Sedevie, Bowman, Ann Neidinger, Santa Ana, Calif., and Gertrude Kraft, Mandan; and one brother, Matt (Lorraine) Kronberger, Bismarck.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Stanley; her parents, John R. and Gertrude; infant daughter, Mary Mosset; her sister, Lena; and her brothers, Tony, Frank, Nick and Joe.
