A group of band students at St. Mary's Central High School in Bismarck volunteered to pick up trash at the recent Country Fest in New Salem. The Trans Trash company on Wednesday gave them a $1,000 check for their efforts. In front holding a cross found on the ground at the Country Fest are Lilly Haag, left, and Makenzie Mills. In back from left are Johathan Plante, Pacey Dosch, Sam Huntington, band director Anne Chambers, Ben Chambers, Cindy Kaelberer, Mitch Kaelberer, both of Trans Trash, Angela Plante and Lance Selzler, of Trans Trash. Haag said when she found the colorful cross she knew it was not going to be thrown away. "I thought it was cool, and I thought it would be good to give it to my mom because she was starting a new job and needed it because it's pretty," Haag said. The students plan to use the money for a band trip to New York City next year, Angela Plante said.
