Several hundred people gathered in the chilly wind Sunday afternoon, October 12, 1975 at Arrowhead Plaza to watch Al and Chris Kosir raise an American flag, believed to be one of the largest in the country, over the shopping center. Also participating in the event were the Century High School marching band, the El Zagal Plainsmen chorus and the Bismarck Mounted Posse. Donated by Mrs. Meredith Casey Rouse, of Bismarck, the flag measured 15 by 25 feet.
The flag was stolen and replaced only to be stolen again, replaced again and stolen again. All within the span of a year of this photo. The fourth flag was raised in December of 1976 and security measures were put in place to prevent its theft.
