Registration open for Santa Run in Bismarck

Registration has opened for the sixth annual Santa Run on Saturday, Dec. 14, at the North Dakota Capitol grounds in Bismarck.

The event his year is welcoming 1964 Olympic gold medalist Billy Mills.

The event features a festive 5K run/walk beginning at 10 a.m. Runners 13 and older receive and run in Santa suits, and everyone receives a free Santa hat. Children 12 and under also can participate in a free “Elf Dash” starting at 9:30 a.m.

Proceeds will benefit programs supported by the Runners Against Destructive Decisions (RADD) running program and Hope Manor.

All registrants are invited to a prerace reception on Friday, Dec., 13 at the Heritage Center and State Museum, where they can listen to Mills' story. Santa packets and gear can be picked up from 5-7 p.m. that night or on race day beginning at 8:30 a.m. Following the run, the public is invited to view “Running Brave,” the 1983 movie about Mills’ life, in the Heritage Center Auditorium.
