The 33rd annual Dakota Cowboy Poetry Gathering is scheduled for Memorial Day weekend at the Medora Community Center.

The two-day event features free daytime sessions, with numerous poets and singers from several states displaying their talents. The evening shows will have an admission charge and feature regional and nationally known entertainers.

The May 25 evening show will be hosted by state Sen. Merrill Piepkorn. Rancher Bonnie Krogman, of Wood, S.D., kicks off the evening with her poems, and musician Vickie Hill will perform. Connie Gjermundson, a native of Marshall, will provide original songs. Nashville recording artist Eli Barsi will finish the night after a performance by event founder Bill Lowman.

The May 26 show will emceed by cowboy poet and rancher Jonathan Odermann.

Lowman said he is pleased with the success of the event. Poetry and music will be provided by Patty Burian, of Killdeer, singer Abe Simons, Montana rancher Karen Stocket and Montana cowboy Jack Owens.

"We just started to put one on," Lowman said. "Little did we know we'd still be here 33 years later with the same format. As long as people keep coming, we'll be here to welcome them."
