Mandan School Board members have agreed to hire ICON Architectural Group to design an addition at Red Trail Elementary School.
School district officials interviewed three firms, Ryan Lagasse, business manager, told board members Nov. 19. They recommended hiring ICON to design a six-room classroom addition at Red Trail.
Mandan Public Schools saw a surge in enrollment this year, especially at the elementary schools. There were 216 more students on the first day of school this fall compared to last year.
Superintendent Mike Bitz told the board he will submit an application to the state Department of Public Instruction for the possible classroom addition. He said projects valued at more than $150,000 must have state approval.
The school board also has set the official calendar for the 2019-20 school year.
The district set up an online poll, as it does every year, for teachers, staff, parents and students to vote on. Of 1,859 responses, nearly 57 percent voted for the calendar in which school starts Aug. 22 and ends May 21.
