Weston's resignation comes on the heels of three straight trips to the state tournament. Eight of his players earned All-Western Dakota Association recognition, and four were named to the all-state team. He was named the WDA coach of the year in 2018.
Mark Wiest, Mandan activities director, said a search for Weston's successor will begin immediately.
"Stephen did a very good job of building a competitive program and developing the kids. He worked hard on establishing his culture and building a respected program," Wiest said. "Reaching the state tournament for three consecutive seasons is something that had never happened (at Mandan), and obviously Stephen deserves a lot of credit for that."
