Bill increasing speed limit on many ND roads rejected by lawmakers

  • 0

North Dakota lawmakers voted down a proposal to increase the speed limit on North Dakota highways Thursday.

House Bill 1184, introduced by Rep. Ben Koppelman, R-West Fargo, would have increased the speed limit on paved, two-lane highways from 65 mph to 70 mph, bumped the limit on divided multi-lane highways from 70 mph to 75 mph, and raised the interstate speed limit from 75 mph to 80 mph.

The bill failed with only six members of the House voting in its favor.

A bill that only increases the speed limit on the interstates to 80 mph is scheduled for a hearing in the Senate Appropriations Committee Friday morning.
