Officials say a tank overflow spilled 258 barrels of saltwater at a Mountrail County well site.
The spill was reported to the North Dakota Department of Health on Friday.
The well site is owned by Statoil and sits about six miles southwest of Ross.
The spill was contained. Impacted soil has been removed from the site. Karl Rockeman of the Health Department said there is no concern of water sources being contaminated.
The Health Department will work with the company on a remediation plan.
Rockeman said it is “too soon to tell” whether a fine will be issued.
