A pipeline leaked produced water into pastureland in McKenzie County last week, the North Dakota Department of Environmental Quality reported Tuesday.

The spill happened 4 miles west of Watford City on Friday along a pipeline operated by Henry Hill Oil Services. An initial estimate says that the line leaked 200 barrels or 8,400 gallons of produced water, which is a mixture of saltwater and oil that can contain drilling chemicals.

Environmental Quality says state inspectors will monitor cleanup.
