The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating a fatality that occurred Saturday night at an oilfield worksite near Williston.

An OSHA spokeswoman said employees of Brigade Energy Services were finishing up servicing a well when the top end of a heavy rod they were reconnecting fell and struck a male employee in the head.

Williams County Sgt. Detective Caleb Fry said sheriff's deputies assisted Ray ambulance personnel in responding about 10 p.m. Saturday to the site near 126th Avenue Northwest and 58th Street Northwest, about 11 miles northeast of Williston.

The deceased is a 34-year-old man. His name was not released.

The case is not a criminal investigation, according to Fry, who said no one else was injured.

OSHA has six months to complete its investigation into the fatality.

Brigade Energy Services in Williston declined comment Wednesday.
