NDSU MEN GARNER HOOPS WIN OVER UND
North Dakota State University pulled away from a 23-23 tie and let the rest of the way to defeat the University of North Dakota 83-74 in men's basketball Sunday in Fargo.
The host Bison led 41-34 at halftime before a crowd of 3,817.
Tyson Ward and Vinnie Shahid proved to be a potent duo for NDSU, which improved to 13-6, 4-1 in the Summit League. Ward scored 27 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Shahid added 22 points.
Marlon Stewart and Filip Rebraca paced UND with 22 and 21 points, respectively. UND dipped to 8-12 with the loss, 2-4 in conference play.
The teams play a rematch Feb. 22 in Grand Forks.
NDSU women rally past UND
Sparked by a 10-1 closing run, North Dakota State defeated the University of North Dakota 92-82 in women's college basketball Sunday in Fargo.
Michelle Gaislerova and Ryan Cobbins scored 22 points apiece to lead the winning Bison. Sofija Zivaljevic and Rylee Nudell contributed 15 and 11 points, respectively, to the NDSU attack.
Julie Fleecs scored 18 points to lead UND.
The Bison boosted their record to 1-3 in the Summit League and 4-12 overall with the victory. UND dropped to 2-3 in the league and 11-7 on the season.
U-Mary improves to 3-0 in MLK tournament
The University of Mary opened a 4-0 lead and defeated Metropolitan State of Denver 5-1 Sunday at Westminster, Colo.
With the win, the Marauders improve to 3-0 in the MLK tournament. Earlier, they defeated Grand Canyon University 23-0 and Oregon 2-0. U-Mary's final game in the tournament is this afternoon against the University of Colorado.
Five different players scored for the Marauders, who outshot Metropolitan State 37-20. Credited with the U-Mary goals were Zachery Garrett, Mathew Janke, Seth Cushing, Alex Flicek and Dalton Johnson.
The Marauders now stand 30-6 on the season. MSU is 15-9.
