The Ultimate continuum of care for our friends, family & neighbors. The Future of Senior Care, Today Edgewood began out of necessity. In the early 1990s, Phil Gisi, the owner and CEO of Edgewood Healthcare, realized there were limited options for the expanding senior population in the Minot, ND market, which included family members near and dear to his heart. Gisi and the Edgewood founders’ vision for improved senior housing options became a reality when Edgewood Vista and Village opened in 1993. Over the past 25+ years, Edgewood has grown to include 62 senior living communities in seven states (Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Montana, Wyoming and Idaho), including three local Bismarck/Mandan senior living communities and one 55+ retirement living community. The Edgewood Healthcare umbrella continues to grow and thrive, recently adding home health, hospice and therapy services to their offerings, through their new CaringEdge Healthcare division. Edgewood’s goal is to provide ease of access to the services and amenities their 4,000+ residents truly need. Through steady growth and a solid commitment and reputation for providing high-quality healthcare services to seniors, Edgewood has become the leading operator of senior living communities in the upper Midwest and is proud to offer quality employment to nearly 2,600 individuals. The benefits of offering a continuum of care As individuals grow older, they generally have a strong sense of self, they have a solid foundation of support from family and friends and they have an understanding of what they want out of life. Even so, aging presents certain changes and challenges, whether they’re related to one’s sense of independence and purpose, health-related or otherwise. However, this doesn’t mean that seniors have to stop living well-rounded and fulfilled lives, as there are plenty of ways to ensure they truly enjoy their golden years. However, unique obstacles can sometimes arise during the “retirement and beyond” years, that may affect an individual’s ability to continue living independently. When this becomes the case, turning to Edgewood could possibly be the best and easiest option. At Edgewood they understand there are a plethora of care and living options available to today’s 55 and better population and their goal is to provide the best of all these services under one roof. Why choose Assisted Living? Assisted Living communities like Edgewood can provide residents a home-like environment that includes meals, housekeeping, transportation, medication management, countless opportunities for social, physical and spiritual engagement and other assistance as required. This allows residents to continue living as independently as they choose, without having to worry or wonder how they will continue to handle things like housework or grocery shopping. Residents also enjoy breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks that are prepared fresh, in-house daily. Food is often the center of many people’s day, so Edgewood focuses on making dining an experience: delicious food, a warm atmosphere and great company! For these reasons, Edgewood can provide an easy nextstep transition for area seniors. Joining their journey with memory loss. Located within both the Edgewood Dominion and Edgewood Mandan locations are two smaller yet diverse and active communities. Twenty beds at the Dominion community and twenty-two beds at the Mandan community (with a 15-bed expansion coming soon) are home to Edgewood’s Memory Care residents. These specially designed and secured areas offer a comfortable, home-like environment for those living with Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia. If you are in the limited population of individuals that have never known or loved one of the 5.5 million Americans living with Alzheimer’s disease, you likely also fall in the group of Bismarck/Mandan-area residents that are unfamiliar with just how critical this resource is for local seniors living with memory loss. According to the 2018 Alzheimer’s Disease Facts and Figures, published by the Alzheimer’s Association, in North Dakota there were approximately 14,000 residents age 65 and older living with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia. That number is projected to grow by 14.3% (or to about 16,000 residents) by 2025. Unfortunately, the availability of services and care for these residents is not growing at the same pace, which makes it even more critical that Edgewood spread the word about the opportunities they can offer this unique population. At Edgewood they understand residents and their family members struggle with the fact that they cannot control the aging process or the changes and obstacles that sometimes accompany it.
