The University of Mary women’s track team ended Minnesota State-Mankato’s reign in the Northern Sun indoor championships.

The Marauders piled up 150 points to edge the two-time defending champion Mavericks (123.5) as the two-day meet wrapped up on Saturday in Mankato, Minn.

Alexis Zeis was the conference’s top scorer, picking up 30 points for the Marauders. The senior from Bismarck won the mile (4:51.29), the 3,000 (9:51.47) and the 5,000 (17:21.14).

The Marauders’ 1,600 meter relay squad of Julia Hammerschmidt, Nicolyn Brown, Abbey Zastrow and Nelecia Richards won a conference title in 3:48.56.

The distance medley relay team of Rebekkah Bond, Cali Modglin, Bree Erickson and Kate Fox finished first in 12:09.60.

D’Andra Morris won the triple jump with a mark of 39-2 ¼.

Hammerschmidt finished second in the 400 (56.91). Richards and Zastrow finished second and third, respectively, in the 600 – in 1:35.22 and 1:36.20.

Taylor Hestekin claimed second in the 800 (2:13.33), Erickson second in the 1,000 (2:55.88), Jaiden Schuette second in the 3,000 (9:56.84) and Tonie Pandohie second in the 60 hurdles (8.53).

Kaycee Stewart was third in the 5,000 (17:44.60).

Luxon Glor led the way for the Marauder men, as U-Mary finished second in the team standings behind Minnesota State-Mankato. The Mavericks won their seventh consecutive NSIC title with 184.5 points. U-Mary compiled 88 points to edge Sioux Falls and Minnesota-Duluth (with 75 apiece) for second place.

Glor was the conference’s top scorer as he piled up 26 points for U-Mary – winning the 60 meter dash (6.85), placing second in the 200 (22.0), third in the long jump (23-1 ¾) and seventh in the triple jump (45-11 ¾).

Derek Myers finished second in the 5,000 meters in 14:37.13, one day after taking third in the 3,000.

Beau Nutting placed second in the triple jump (47-7 ¼).

Teegan Olson came in third in the 800 (1:54.44) and Marceau Jovin was third in the 60 hurdles (8.24).

Tennis team falls to Mankato

The University of Mary women’s tennis team dropped a 6-3 decision to Minnesota State-Mankato on Saturday at Capital Racquet and Fitness.

The Marauders finished off a pair of weekend sweeps in doubles.

Eileen Leong and Emily Bichler and Lisa Anderson and Danielle Wolf picked up victories on Saturday following wins during Friday’s match against Southwest Minnesota State.

Leong and Bichler defeated Kylie DeWees and Tyanna Washa 9-7 at No. 2 doubles, while Anderson and Wolf prevailed over Valerie Bresnahan and Camila Ojeda 8-4 at No. 3 doubles.

Leong picked up the Marauders’ other victory on Saturday with a 6-3, 6-4 win over DeWees at No. 3 singles.

At No. 1 singles, Erin Streeter and Monika Ryan posted an 8-4 win over Lucia Bolibruch and Kelsey Lajom.

In other singles matches, Streeter defeated Bolibruch 6-0, 6-1, Ryan topped Lajom 7-6, 6-4, Ojeda defeated Wolf 6-2, 6-4, Washa stopped Cristina Bremar 6-2, 6-1 and Madeline Muotka beat Julie Donnelly 6-1, 6-2.

The Marauders travel to Orlando, Fla., for four non-conference matches March 6-9.
