One. The Minnesota Twins became the first team in MLB history to make the playoffs one year after losing 100-plus games. The Twins went 59-103 in 2016.
10 YEARS AGO (2007): Dagny Knutson had a typical day at the seven-team Mandan-Century-Bismarck Swimming and Diving Invitational. Four events and four victories. Well, almost four victories. The Minot sophomore won the 50 freestyle and butterfly and swam on two relays that finished first. One relay, however, was disqualified.
20 YEARS AGO (1997): Jodi Luithle led Richardton-Taylor to a 47-36 road victory over Belfield in girls basketball. Luithle scored 18 points and teammate Dana Bloom added 14. Theresa Marx tallied 14 points for Belfield, which trailed 27-23 at halftime.
50 YEARS AGO (1967): Dave Osborn, the University of North Dakota's contribution to the Minnesota Vikings, is leading the team's offensive statistics. The 205-pound halfback has been the Vikings' most productive ball-carrier and is one of the top pass receivers in the first two games. Osborn has carried the ball 18 times for 108 yards. Osborn and Paul Flatley are tied for the receiving lead with eight catches. Flatley has gained 75 yards and Osborn 67. The Vikings have scored only 24 points while losing two games.
