There are your Class AAA football teams, and then there are the Bismarck Demons.

They seem to be in a league of their own.

Bismarck stayed unbeaten on the season with a 62-0 drubbing of the Dickinson Midgets in the finale of the regular season on Wednesday night.

The No. 1 ranked Demons swept through their West Region opponents to finish at 5-0 in the conference. They are 9-0 overall.

Bismarck will open up the playoffs next weekend at home against Fargo North.

"The only thing we wanted to do today is we wanted to come out and play with a playoff atmosphere intensity," Bismarck coach Mark Gibson said. "I think our kids did that. It's a credit to our kids and the job they do to get ready for games like this."

Dickinson, the No. 4 seed, finished the regular season at 2-3 in the region and 3-6 overall.

"Bismarck is loaded," Dickinson coach Dave Michaelson said. "Not only do they have talent, but they are deep. My worst fear, in a game like this, is that we would lay down, and we did that. We're not a bad team, but we were tonight."

The Demons hung up 42 points in the first quarter, scoring on their first three possessions at the Community Bowl.

Jake Miller scored on runs of 34, 43 and 4 yards. He also hauled in a 57-yard pass from Esley Thorton.

Kevin Poitra picked up a fumble and returned it 11 yards for a score.

Channing Mann scampered in from 29 yards out with 18 seconds remaining in the quarter to give the Demons a commanding lead.

"Once we were up on them 14-0, it seemed like they kind of laid down a little bit," said Mann, a 5-foot-10, 165-pound junior. "The offensive line played really well tonight. They got a lot of good pushes, which opened up a lot of big run plays and gave our quarterback some passing time."

Mann added a pair of touchdown runs in the second quarter, scoring from 16 and 65 yards.

With most of Bismarck's starters resting in the second half, Dillon Lange added the Demons' final score at 2:32 of the fourth quarter with a 44-yard run.

"Going 9-0 is great," Gibson said. "But we are starting over now, and the kids know that. Now is the time to put the gas pedal down and get after it."

The Demons racked up 506 yards of total offense with 400 coming on the ground. Mann led the Demons with 151 yards on 10 carries. Miller racked up 91 yards on six touches and Lange had 11 carries for 89 yards.

Quarterback Esley Thorton was perfect, completing 2 of 2 passes for 106 yards.

Dickinson had 147 yards of offense with 88 coming on the ground and 59 through the air. Adam Grimsley carried the ball eight times for 32 yards. Quarterback Connor McNeilly completed 6 of 14 passes for 59 yards.

McNeilly threw one pick, which was taken by Nathan Deichert early in the fourth quarter.

The Midgets lost two fumbles in the first quarter, which led to Poitra's touchdown and Miller's 4-yard run. Dickinson didn't record a first down until late in the second quarter, on its final drive.

"Bismarck has it all," Michaelson said. "Their linebackers are fast and physical. On offense they don't have a two- or three-headed monster, but a four- or five-headed monster."

Despite the loss, Michaelson has been pleased with his team's season and is eager for the playoffs.

"We have to forget about this one and treat it like its the next season," he said. "We have to look in the mirror and say 'we have to get better fast.' One thing I can guarantee is that we won't lay down again."
