CARRINGTON - South Border carries a seven-stroke into today's second and final round of the Class B girls golf state tournament.
The Mustangs shot a 357 at CrossRoads Golf Club in Carrington on Monday, while Fargo Oak Grove finished with a 364. Hazen (383), Heart River (387) and Langdon (388) rounded out the top five. Katelynn Long of Napoleon-Gackle-Streeter is in fifth place with an 87.
Emily St. Aubin paced the leaders with an 80 and goes into today's action tied for first place with Hazen's Bethany Leier. Kaitlyn Hubrig of Hankinson-Lidgerwood-Fairmount-Campbell-Tintah is in third place, four stroke back.
South Border's Madison Braaten finished the first day with an 89, and teammates Morgan Gallagher and Rachel Rueb carded scores of 90 and 98, respectively.
Defending state champion Northern Lights has a seven-stroke lead over Heart River and Kindred at the Class B boys state tournament at the Jamestown Country Club.
Led by Dalton Poitra's 76, Northern Lights finished the first day with 325 strokes. Heart River and Kindred both carded a 332, Hillsboro-Central Valley a 334, and Tioga a 337.
Individually, Jake Preston of Hillsboro-CV tops the leader board with an even-par 72. Preston's round included an eagle on the back nine.
Matt Rueb of South Border Brook Bergh of Sargent Central both came in with a 74. Last year's medalist, Joey Wagner of Heart River, is tied for fifth with a 76.
