NORTH DAKOTA 5, US U-18 TEAM 2

GRAND FORKS – Five different players notched goals as the University of North Dakota defeated the U.S. Nationa U-18 hockey team in an exhibition game on Saturday at Ralph Engelstad Arena.

Cole Smith, Austin Pogansi and Matt Kiersted scored in the first period to stake North Dakota to a 3-0 lead.

Jordan Kawaguchi’s power play goal early in the second made it 4-1. Josh Maiscalco scored midway through the second to make it 4-2.

Shane Gersich added an empty-net goal at 18:25 of the third.

Peter Thome stopped all 12 shots he faced in goal for UND. Cam Johnson stopped 16 of 18 shots he faced and Ryan Anderson also saw time in net for North Dakota.

Dylan St. Cyr made 30 saves for the U.S.

North Dakota returns to regular-season NCHC play next week at home against Nebraska-Omaha.

MINOT 6, BISMARCK 1

MINOT – The Minot Mintauros picked up a second straight victory over the Bismarck Bobcats, scoring three times in the first and third periods on Saturday to win 6-1 at Maysa Arena.

Fritz Belisle, Colby Enns and Grant Loven notched first-period goals to open up a 3-0 lead for the hosts.

Jeremy Gabriele got the Bobcats on the board at 7:24 of the second.

Jake Rosenbaum added a power-play tally in the third period to make it 4-1 Minotauros. Rykr Cole added an empty-net goal at 17:05 and Enns picked up his second goal of the night at 19:53 for Minot.

Johnny Roberts stopped 33 shots in net for Bismarck, while Jack Robbel made 29 saves for the Tauros.

The two teams meet again tonight at 7:15 p.m. at the VFW Sports Center in the Bobcats’ annual New Year’s Eve contest.
