FARGO (AP) - North Dakota State head football coach Craig Bohl says he may play a redshirt freshman at quarterback.
Starter Nick Mertens threw four interceptions in last week's loss to Northern Iowa. It was NDSU's fourth loss in five games.
Bohl said Monday he would take a "hard look" at redshirt freshman quarterback Jose Mohler. The 5-foot-11, 172-pound Mohler threw for 1,351 yards and ran for 580 yards last year at La Costa Canyon High School in California.
Bohl said coaches haven't had a chance to evaluate Mohler closely because he has been the No. 3 quarterback behind Troy Jackson.
So far this season, Mertens has completed 112 of 183 passes for 1,509 yards, 12 scores and 13 interceptions.
Jackson has played in two games this season, completing one of three passes for eight yards. This is the first season with the Bison.
Mohler has not played for the Bison this season.
