10 years ago (1999): Harvey's Nick Raugust was named the male athlete of the year by the NDAPSSA.

He helped Harvey win the Class A football title and won three state indoor track titles and two outdoor crowns.

He was a wide receiver for the Hornets football team, won the 60 hurdles, long jump and triple jump indoors and the 110 and 300 hurdles outdoors.

Dickinson Trinity's Lee Smith, a standout in football, basketball and track, was a finalist.

Dickinson track and field coach Jack Carlson was named boys coach of the year by the NDAPSSA.

Carlson led the Midgets to their third consecutive Class A state championship. Dickinson also won its fourth straight West Region title.

Mandan's Mary Perrizo, a standout basketball, volleyball and track performer, was a finalist for the female athlete of the year.

Century track and Julie Stavn was a finalist for female coach of the year.

20 years ago (1989): Four new events got underway at the Mandan Jaycees Rodeo and Shawn Voigt, Darin Bossert, Mary Ann Trzpuc, Bill Eckroth and Juan Garrett made the most of it.

Voigt, from Zap, took the lead in bareback riding with a 74. That was one point better than Jim Petrault of Watford City.

Mandan's Bossert went ahead in the first night of saddle bronc riding. His 71 was one point better than Australian Steve Merchant.

Eckroth, from Mandan, and Garrett, From Belle Fourche, S.D., wound up tied after a night of bull riding, both gaining scores of 77.

Fargo's Trzpuc took the lead in barrel racing, also held for the first time.

The leaderboard didn't change in the other events. That includes Tim Feland of Bismarck in calf roping, Bunny Bail of Camp Cook, S.D., in breakaway roping and Bob Hansen of Dickinson in steer wrestling.

50 years ago (1959): Corwin-Churchill continues to lead the Bismarck Cub League playing a hot .833 ball. Three other clubs are playing at a .500 clip.

Latest results are: Kiwanis 10, GP Sporting Goods 2; Corwin-Churchill 5, GP Men's Store 4; GP Sporitn Googds 9, Lions 1.

David Perry scattered three hits and won his third game of the year in the Kiwanis win.

Corwin-Churchill won a close one from GPMen's in a pitchers duel between Murschel and Olmsted, woth Olmsted winning out. Olmsted struck out 10 and Murschel struck out nine.

Gunville paced the losers with two hits.

Neville won his fourth game of the year allowing the Lions only hits. Birkholtz had two hits for the winners.
