Sydney Smith of St. Mary's was named the Class A West Region Senior Athlete of the year in girls golf at the region tournament on Monday in Dickinson.
Smith's scoring average of 80.90 ranks second-best in the region.
Tonya Dvorak was incorrectly listed as having won the award in Tuesday's edition of The Tribune.
Zeis earns two honors
Alexis Zeis of the University of Mary cross country team has been named the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Association NCAA Division II Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week.
The Bismarck High product won Roy Griak Invitational on Saturday in Minneapolis. In so doing, she became just the third runner in the 32-year history of the race to win the race three times.
It’s the fifth time in her career Zeis has won the weekly award from the USTFCCCA.
Zeis also won the weekly cross country award from the NSIC for the second time this season.
Larks' Anderson earn award
Outfielder Ryan Anderson of the Bismarck Larks has earned the Big Stick Award as one of the top hitters in the Northwoods League.
Anderson was one of three outfielders to earn the award. Anderson, who plays collegiately at UC Davis, hit .340 this summer for the Larks.
The Northwoods League has been presenting the Big Stick award since 2007.
NDSU's Braun signs with Jazz
Former NDSU basketball standout Taylor Braun has signed with the Utah Jazz.
Braun played last season professionally in Germany.
Braun was the Summit League MVP during the 2013-14 season for the Bison.
