Currently there is a rather self-serving myth being circulated by sports figures. That being that sports is unifying. Yes, it unites one group against another.
It took Cole Hamel several pitches, but he finally hit Bryce Harper. I saw several replays of Rudy Tomjonavich getting his face reconstructed. In baseball ... bench clearing brawls; in football ... cheap shots; in basketball ... flagrant fouls; in hockey ... fistfights; in soccer ... riots. Are people out there in a parallel universe or in denial?
We love violence. If we don't have an enemy, we invent one. We vicariously live it through sports. Just give it some serious thought. You may rethink empty cliches.
