The U.S. House bill on tax reform will hurt senior citizens in North Dakota — as it will invoke an automatic "pay-as-you-go" provision that will require automatic cuts to Medicare in 2018 of $25 billion. I have contacted our representative in Washington making it known that such a drastic cut is unacceptable and that changes need to be made to this bill before it is passed.
I urge those on Medicare to make their voices known. While I favor tax reform, such a drastic cut next year to Medicare will far more negatively impact North Dakota seniors and negate any positive impact of a one-time, short-term tax cut.
