I agree with Eric Thompson's April 3 letter. "We must be special by what we do." And there is so much more!
We must teach our children respect and compassion. More than that, we must model it for them. But we can't just stop at our children. We need to model it for their friends, their classmates, all the way to strangers on the street.
Some may find it trite, but we truly are the hands and feet. Every one of us. Who else can teach our children to reach out to the lonely? Who else can model to all of our youth how to sit with those who are in crisis and listen? Or to get to our feet and raise our hands to help?
The world is so torn apart right now. But look at your neighbors, look at your friends, look at your co-workers ... they are the same as you. Regardless of political affiliation, regardless of left or right, they believe in just about the same things you do. Sure, we may differ on the finer points of some issues. But remember that we all want to live a good life. We all want to have the liberty and freedom from being controlled. And we all work toward the pursuit of happiness.
We all strive to make our lives and the lives of our children better. In this endeavor we are all united!
