It was refreshing to see Sen. Heidi Heitkamp, D-N.D., on stage with President Donald Trump during his recent visit to North Dakota. It’s obvious Heitkamp doesn’t agree with the president on every issue — nor do I. In fact, I don’t agree with him on much at all — but Heitkamp is obviously willing to consider any idea or proposal that could benefit our state.
Why would we expect her to oppose or support a tax reform proposal before the details have been released? She’s going to wait, evaluate the proposal on its merits, and then make a decision based on policy, not politics. That’s the North Dakotan thing to do, and I think our country would be a lot better off if more politicians put aside their partisanship and followed Heitkamp’s example.
