I am compelled to write about the governor's upcoming workforce development and HR conference in Fargo. At this conference there will apparently be a presentation given by two attorneys from Stinson Leonard Street LLP.
The attorneys specialize in helping nonunion employers maintain their non-union status and defending unionized employers in NLRB trials, labor arbitrations, and labor contract negotiations. In other words keeping the unions out and helping companies act against their union workers.
In my opinion the state has no business putting on presentations by anti-worker law firms.
The Bismarck Tribune's Aug. 28 article by Jessica Holdman illustrates the highest wages in North Dakota are in the counties with the largest percentage of union members while the rest of the state lags behind due to archaic laws like right to work, and backward ideas like the ones promoted by this law firm. This is not workforce development, this is workforce oppression and abuse.
