President Donald Trump's Tax Cut and Jobs Act has reduced corporate tax rates from 35 percent to 21 percent but now the California state government is hoping to reap the rewards.
A constitutional amendment proposed by Sacramento Democrats Kevin McCarty and Phil Tong would require California's corporate citizens pay half of its federal windfall to California. Democrats seem to believe that government, either the federal or state government, owns all private property and therefore citizens and corporations don't actually own their income, nor their wealth. All property is now owned by the government. How else can we explain the mindless proposal spewed by party leaders?
Most Americans don't think like the Democratic Party leaders. They know that they are the rightful owners of the wealth they created — not the government. They also feel that they make better decisions on how to spend their money than mindless bureaucrats. The right to private property is guaranteed by the Constitution. Politicians like McCarty and Tong and other Democratic leaders needn't look very far to see the results of their Marxist dogma — look at the failed states of Venezuela and Cuba.
There is nothing left to call this tax grab but outright theft.
