The subtitle “Bank of North Dakota getting out of student loan business” in the Nov. 14 print version of the Bismarck Tribune was misleading and inaccurate. This error has caused confusion for our customers and the residents of North Dakota.

I want to make it clear that there is absolutely no consideration being given to discontinuing the state-sponsored student loan programs, DEAL and DEAL One. We are only selling the federal student loan portion of the portfolio, not the entire portfolio. We are most definitely going to continue with our own student loan programs, contrary to the headline.

DEAL student loans play an essential role in helping North Dakota residents attending both in-state and out-of-state schools fund their higher education goals. When North Dakota residents have graduated college, they may refinance all their student loans, including federal student loans, with Bank of North Dakota through DEAL One.
