In response to Marlon Haakenson's letter on Oct. 26. No matter what you do, you can't make everyone happy. By law bicyclists can ride on any road, with the exception of the interstate, as far to the right as practicable.
This pop-up bike path is only making this area more safe for cyclists by creating an actual lane. Sidewalks are for pedestrians, and if you look into the city's Century code, it is actually against the law for cyclists to ride on some of Bismarck's downtown area sidewalks.
The writer was concerned about something we, as cyclists, deal with every day. Dangerous traffic is a daily occurrence. We are going to ride on the road, we are lawfully allowed to. Why not make more bike lanes so it is safer for both drivers and cyclists?
