The new tax cut legislation is bad news indeed. It will add greatly to our national debt, and that is too high a price to pay for whatever economic stimulus it may give us. Running a budget deficit during an emergency is understandable, but we are certainly not now in an emergency.
The idea that the tax cut will pay for itself, by generating a huge amount of economic growth, is supported by no evidence whatever. President Ronald Reagan's tax cut created a huge budget deficit, and so did George W. Bush's, so why would the current tax cut be any different?
The Republicans have simply decided to throw a big party and stick our grandchildren with the bill. We should be outraged.
