Bismarck Police reported that a suspect in the attempted assault of a police officer has been arrested.
Around 9:45 p.m. Thursday, police reported that 22-year-old Ulises Villalobos was arrested without incident in Brookings, S.D.
Villalobos is suspected of attempting to run over a Bismarck police officer who subsequently fired his weapon at Villalobos’ vehicle. The officer was reportedly uninjured but police said evidence found in the suspect's vehicle indicates Villalobos may have been shot.
He reportedly fled eastbound from Bismarck in another vehicle, possibly later seen on Interstate 29 near Argusville.
The attempted assault triggered the state’s first use of a Blue Alert, a statewide notification sent in such situations as a suspect at large who has injured or killed a peace officer.
The officer who shot at the suspect vehicle has been placed on administrative leave, per department policy, according to Bismarck Police Sgt. Mark Buschena. Bismarck Police Officer Pat Renz said The North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation will examine the shooting.
Bismarck Police said further information regarding Villalobos’ arrest will be available Friday morning.
