Oct. 27 prison charity walk

North Dakota State Penitentiary inmates and staff participated in a charity walk on Friday.

Hurricane victims of the southern United States have received donations and aid from around the world, including the North Dakota State Penitentiary.

Sixty-two preferred housing residents and 17 staff participated in a charity walk in the prison's main yard on Friday, the prison said in a news release.

The fundraiser gathered $623 to donate to the American Red Cross to help hurricane-stricken communities in Texas, Florida, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

"It was a good opportunity to have staff and residents come together to help others in need," the prison said in a statement.
