The Archives Division of the State Historical Society of North Dakota has been awarded a fourth National Digital Newspaper Program grant of $246,605 from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
The total project award to the State Historical Society is now more than $1.1 million. The grant enables the State Archives to digitize another 100,000 pages of word-searchable newspapers available online at no charge to the user. The State Historical Society is one of 14 recipients this year, with the total grant amount of $3.57 million.
The NDNP is a joint effort between the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Library of Congress. This is a long-term endeavor aimed at creating a nationwide online digital database for historic newspapers published between 1690 and 1963.
