FARGO, N.D. (AP) - A Fargo police officer who retired in November has been named the to fill the city's new homeless liaison position.

The Forum reported that Scott Stenerson gained experience on the issues of homelessness during his nine years as a downtown resource officer.

The part-time position will be funded on an annual basis through a $20,000 federal grant aimed at helping those with low to moderate income.

Officials say homeless rates in the Fargo area metro have almost doubled over the past seven years.
