FARGO (AP) — Microsoft Corp. officials say its Fargo campus has been honored with two environmental awards.

The company’s cafeteria has been deemed a three star certified green restaurant by the Green Restaurant Association. The group’s highest rating is four stars, but only a handful of restaurants nationwide have received that honor.

The ratings are based on environmental categories such as energy, water, waste, chemicals and food disposables.

Microsoft officials say the company also was designated with a LEED-Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council, for the environmental standards in its newest campus building.

LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.

Microsoft spokesman Chris Owens said the recognition shows the company’s “commitment toward protecting the surrounding environment, conserving water, reducing energy, conserving natural resources and ensuring healthy indoor environments.”
