WILLISTON (AP) - Anglers caught fewer paddlefish in northwestern North Dakota this past spring, but a Williston nonprofit group says it still harvested about the same amount of eggs as last year.
North Star Caviar sells the eggs as a delicacy. Proceeds go to community grants and paddlefish research.
Operations manager Darci Grindheim says about 1,800 pounds of eggs were harvested this year.
The paddlefish spawn near the confluence of the Yellowstone and Missouri rivers. The season is open through May or until a 1,000-fish limit is reached. Only about 700 paddlefish were caught this year, mainly due to higher runoff that spread out the fish in a larger area of water.
