GRAND FORKS (AP) - The preliminary hearing has been delayed for a college nursing student charged in the beating death of a man outside a bar.

Court documents say the hearing for Travis Stay, of Princeton, Minn., was delayed so his attorney can go through 1,200 pages of paperwork related to the case. The hearing, which had been set for Monday, is expected to be rescheduled for sometime next month.

Stay is charged with murder in the October death of 38-year-old Joel Lovelien. Authorities said Lovelien was beaten to death after he stepped outside the Broken Drum Bar on Oct. 27, to take a phone call.

Stay, who was arrested in December, has not entered a plea.
