BRANDON, S.D. (AP) - A Brandon toddler is in the hospital recovering from an E. coli infection he apparently picked up at a petting zoo.
Three-year-old Isaiah Peters was suffering flu-like symptoms when his kidneys stopped working and he had to be flown to a Minneapolis hospital.
His family suspects he got sick after visiting a traveling petting zoo in Brandon three weeks ago.
Doctors told Isaiah's grandmother that he should be out of the hospital in about a month.
Health experts say since some animals often carry the E. coli bacteria it's important to wash hands or use a sanitzer after touching them.
