DEVILS LAKE (AP) - State and county officials are holding an emergency drill in the Devils Lake area this week to prepare for the possibility of flooding along roads that act as dams.
Officials say many roads have been serving as dams with the rise of Devils Lake, and some roads are holding back as much as 12 feet of water.
This week's drill involves the National Guard as well as Ramsey and Benson counties and the Spirit Lake tribe. Officials plan to practice warnings and evacuations and provide temporary shelter, and the National Guard will fly a Black Hawk helicopter over the area to observe.
